The Drawbacks Of Using Abdominal Machines For Your Abdominal Workout

June 19, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Developing a set of great looking abs doesn’t come easy, it takes consistent working out, the right exercises and the correct diet to make it all come together. But what part can abdominal exercise machines play? Are they worth it? Could they help or hinder your progress? That’s what this post will explore, and you might be surprised with the results.

Why isolated Exercises don’t work as well

Working out with an abdominal machine only focuses on the abs and not the rest of the body. While the infomercials for some of the gadgets that have come out in the last decade suggest that they are the end all be all to get 6 pack abs that’s unfortunately a long way from the truth. These machines can develop very strong abdominal muscles, but you will struggle with a 6 pack? Why? That’s what we’ll talk about next.

Percentage Body Fat is the Issue

You may very well have the strongest abs in the world, but if you do not have a body fat percentage of 10-12% you’re won’t be able to see the definition of the 6 pack. Most of us have a thin layer of abdominal fat covering over our abs of even the fittest folks in the world. You need to combine ab workouts with fat burning workouts to lose abdominal fat before you can start seeing definition in your abs.

The Abdominal and Belly Fat solution

Not focusing on just your abs with ab exercise machines is the first step. The second step is getting into exercises that don’t just build lean muscle but they’ll actually help you burn fat. Before you run to the treadmill for a thirty minute Cardio workout. A better alternative, and an option which isn’t quite as boring, is doing multi joint exercises.

So what exactly are multi joint exercises? Think dead lifts, lunges and any other exercise that requires you to use more the one muscle group. This type of exercise works more then just an isolated muscle group and will accelerate fat burning all over your body and not just in the area you’re exercising.

Get The Benefits Of Resistance Workouts From Home

May 28, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

The benefits of resistance training are the same as those from machines at a gym or bar bells and dumb bells at home. In fact there are actually some unique benefits that can only be had by working out using resistance training, for example the size and portable option of exercise bands along with the low cost are reason enough to consider switching to resistance training. How ever there are a slew of other benefits as well. You probably didn’t know that when working out with exercise bands the resistance becomes stronger as you perform an exercise movement? This is just one of the mane benefits of using resistance bands for resistance training, this article is going to explore three other reasons you should give it a try.

Increase your Range of Activities and Strength

When working out with resistance bands you develop stronger muscles and bones. This will help you feel better with age, and also helps you complete more strenuous activities you might put your body through. As you continue to workout also enjoy higher energy levels as well.

Reduced Body Fat Percentage

Like any exercise routine resistance training helps you lose weight. You increase your heart rate and in turn burn more calories. A secondary weight loss benefit is that you build lean muscle. Something you might not known is that muscle burns more calories then fat does. So as you workout to build lean muscle you’re burning calories, then the muscle you build by exercising burns more calories again then the fat you carry now.

Boost in Self Confidence

The biggest benefit of resistance training, which is why most people probably get into it is to improve their physique and personal appearance. Resistance training isn’t so much for bulking up as it is for toning, shaping, and sculpting the body. The abs, buttocks, legs, and arms can all be firmly toned and shaped with the right exercises. This of course increases self confidence in other areas of life.

Most likely the largest benefit you receive from resistance training is the improved physique and sculpted body. Unlike strength, resistance training isn’t used to bulk up, rather resistance training is used to sculpt and tone your muscles.

If you’re interested on discovering more about resistance training or you’re ready to get started right away check out our Bodylastics review. It reviews a popular resistance band home gym system that’s under $100 and can be taken anywhere.

Home Fitness Guide - Gym Equipment Options

May 25, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Everyone is aware of the importance of exercising, and many sign up for gym memberships. In actual fact, an individual have similar equipment in one’s home. Having your own equipment can allow one to have more convenience as well. There is no need to share equipment or readjust the machines to suit your individual needs. And you can do your exercises any time you wish.

The hardest part of buying home fitness gym equipment is knowing what to buy. In order to figure out what to buy you need to think of the type of exercising you will be doing and your price range. If you are primarily going to be working on weight lifting, the obvious first purchase is going to be weights.

The type of weights you are going to need will depend on your budget and the outcome you are seeking. For the most part, you should start with free weights that vary in weight. Most fitness stores carry a variety of free weight sets. You will also need a a bar with varying changeable weights.

Eventually you will more than likely want to upgrade your weight sets to a weight machine. This will help you target specific areas of your body. Giving you the option to work on only the muscle group in which you feel needs it. You can also work on your legs with ease using a weight machine.

If you are contemplating purchasing a weight machine, you should be prepared to spend a decent sum of money. The cost and styles are going to vary greatly. Before you buy any machine you should first browse a few different stores so you have an idea of what you need and like. This also gives you the chance to realistically set a budget.

Once you have an idea of what you want your machine to have you can begin looking again. As you narrow your search down, you should use the equipment in the store. This will help you in determining if the size is appropriate and comfortable for you. If the size is uncomfortable, you can see if it is adjustable. If it is not, walk away because you will more than likely end up hurting yourself if you try to use it over an extensive period of time.

Recently stair steppers are growing in popularity. More than likely because they are fairly small and have the potential of giving a wonderful cardiovascular workout. The cost of these can generally range from $80-$150. However, if you are looking for a stair stepper that has all the frills you can expect to spend upwards to $1,700, possibly more.

Another popular machine for home fitness gym equipments are treadmills. When looking to buy a treadmill you should keep in mind, as with anything, you get what you pay for. You can expect to pay a couple hundred dollars to about $2,500, sometimes even more. Some treadmills come with all the thrills and gadgets that you could ever want. However, the most important part to buying a treadmill should be the ease of working it. You should get more comfortable with it over time. As your endurance increases you should be able to also increase the speed and the resistance on the treadmill, so you can continue to get the most out of your equipment for years to come.

If you are going to be spending a substantial amount of money on your new treadmill there are a few must have things. First, it should have many gages and controls, adjustable speeds and distances, measuring capabilities for your speed and distance walked, and a heart rate monitor, to mention just a few.

Vigorfit 3000 Xl - Beats Total Gym Without A Doubt!

May 20, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Recently I had the opportunity to try the VigorFit Home Gym and compare it to the Total Gym XL.

So, how do these two gyms compete?

Let’s address the biggest issue price.

I would not call the VigorFit Home Gym a bargain. I would call it a deal of a lifetime.

In my opinion, it is worth more than the Total Gym XL that can cost more than $1800. So at only $377, the VigorFit is a deal that cannot be ignored.

Quality is top notch. Sturdy steal frame. A comfortable pad that is 2” thick. Oversized accessories. The best way I can put it is that I feel very comfortable on the Vigorfit and I am a big guy.

I think the thing that makes me feel most comfortable is that VigorFit Home Gym offers a Lifetime Warranty. Compared to the Total Gym XL one year warranty, it seals the deal.

Now, here is an issue many people don’t discuss about when purchasing a home gym. Many times get too strong for he gym. They do not provide enough resistance. Not with the VigorFit.
I have been working out for years at the gym and this thing kicks my butt.

It provides up to 72% of your body weight from the 11 incline levels. You have the ability to add free weights but what I really love is the resistance bands. These bands provide up to 188 lbs of resistance and I need to tell you they work.

Total Gym provides only 6 levels of resistance, no power bands and if you want to have the ability to add free weights you have to pay extra in most cases.

I will honestly never be able to max out the resistance on the VigorFit.

So, it doesn’t matter if you are new to working out or a body builder, this home gym will do the job for you.

Portable Fitness Equiment You Can Take On The Go With You

April 26, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Keeping in shape if you travel a lot for work or pleasure isn’t easy. Yes it’s true that many hotels and resorts offer fitness rooms, how ever they’re not used very often. Myself as a salesman on the road each week I’m on the road in a hotel. Not until I discovered a good fitness resistance bands system that I really was able to keep myself in shape while traveling.

When people think of portable exercise equipment the think total trainer or another piece of equipment which can be stored easily. How ever fitness equipment like that still is small enough to to put in a car or on a plane. After shopping around for quite some time I stumbled on Bodylastics, an fitness resistance bands set that was a complete home gym system. The most amazing feature, it came with a small carry case it all packed into it fit nicely into it’s own nylon carry bag that I could toss in my suitcase no matter where I was going.

Before I bought I read a Bodylastics review. It was the review that helped make my decision to make my purchase. The review discussed how personal trainers and athletes used the fitness resistance bands to shape and sculpt not only their clients bodies, but there own as well.

The endorsement of others, combined with the very attractive price point which sold me. I have been an avid fitness resistance bands user since that day. If you’re looking for a smallbut [spin]functional [spin]portable fitness system consider fitness resistance bands.

Wear A Kilt, It’s Good For You!

April 21, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Gentlemen you are in grave danger! and that danger is much closer than you think!

look down and you will see the culprit right there - no a little further - its your very own trousers!

Did you know how dangerous your trousers can be? The British Department of Trade and Industry determined that putting on trousers can pose a serious risk of injury because people lose their balance and topple over hurting themselves. Come on, weve all done it - you are in a hurry to get dressed in the morning, the alarm didn’t quite go off (or you didn’t hear it as you were far too deep in that really cool dream) You dive out of bed and grab your trousers (’pants’ to our American cousins) The first leg is simple and easily slips on halfway but then comes the critical moment… you stand on one leg, stork-like and attempt that second leg, you are now in the trousers grip and they are poised to strike! The yearly home accident report by the DTI estimates there were 4,400 trouser victims last year. Another 400 injured themselves putting on their underwear. (look out for the “When Underwear Attacks” programme no doubt coming to Fox soon!).

What can we do to combat this menace below the belt? how can we be safe from becoming just another trouser statistic?

Help is at hand and its something we Scots have know for a long time - Wearing a kilt is good for you. When you don a kilt both feet are planted firmly on the ground. Since the garment is wrapped around you and buckled at the side its incredibly safe to put on - in fact we have no evidence of anyone ever having injured themselves while putting on a kilt, 4,800 people a year saving themselves from injury if only that had worn a kilt! What happens to you after its on though is another matter!

Kilts are affordable

OK I can hear you say - great so I’m not going to be hurt getting dressed but what happens when I hit the streets dressed like a woman? Well I can reassure you that a good kilt properly worn is not only safe - it’s quite a macho look! In recent years we have had Liam Neeson and Mel Gibson kilted on the silver screen and Vin Diesel at the MTV awards in Edinburgh. No one is going to turn around the them and accuse them of dressing like a woman. The Scottish Regiment the 51st Highland Division were lethal in their kilts; the last time they saw action while still wearing the kilt as part of their uniform was during the First World War. So fearsome was their reputation that the Germans referred to them as ‘The Ladies from Hell! In the early 1800s many Scottish regiments were billeted in England - they were such a hit with the ladies that the only danger they faced there was being lynched by a jealous local!

Kilts in battle

So dont worry about what other’s think - wear your kilt with pride and just think about all those poor trouser wearers falling over themselves to be as cool!

Exercise Equipment Rowing Machines

April 17, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

Exercise equipment rowing machines are great machines for strength training and building muscle. In strength training, rowing (or a row, usually preceded by a qualifying adjective — for instance a seated row) is a form of muscular resistance training exercise that shares many characteristics of rowing a boat without involving water or a boat, which is where an Exercise Equipment Rowing Machines comes in.

When done as a weight-lifting exercise, its purpose is to exercise the muscles that draw the rower’s arms toward the body (latissimus dorsi) and those that support the spine (erector spinae). When done on a exercise equipment rowing machine, sometimes called an erg, rowing also exercises muscles that extend and support the legs (quadriceps and hamstrings). In all cases, the abdominal and lower back muscles must be used in order to support the body and prevent back injury. This makes an exercise equipment rowing machine a great, nearly full body workout piece.

Rowing is often done on an exercise equipment rowing machine indoors, called an erg or ergo, which is short for “ergometer,” a Greek phrase for “a device that measures work.” Nevertheless, many other weight-assisted gym exercises mimic the movement of rowing, such as the deadlift, high pull and the bent-over row. Rowing can also be done outdoors on land with a rowbike. Some rowbike manufacturers sell stationary bike stands that permit indoor use, but an exercise equipment rowing machine is often a better and more sustained workout.

In addition to competitive rowers, exercise equipment rowing machines are also the preference of many other fitness enthusiasts. The exercise equipment rowing machine is a low impact movement, with little pressure on the knees. However, one must be taught proper form or back injuries, especially lower back injuries, can result from the rowing motion, so care and caution should be taken when using an exercise equipment rowing machine for the first time. The first category, which could be called their “lower end” options, includes the Life Fitness Elliptical X3 model and the Life Fitness Elliptical X3i model.

Even though the Life Fitness Elliptical X3 and X3i are in the lower range of the Life Fitness equipment, it needs to be made very clear that these are still very high-quality, durable machines that are definitely considered to be on the higher end when compared to all of the other elliptical machines on the market. The primary difference between the X3 and the X3i is that the latter includes a heart monitor and has more programmable options, including the ability to create four customized programs. These are not pieces of cheap exercise equipment, as both of these models are available for just under $3,000.

Some people recommend spending an additional $500 to upgrade to the Life Fitness Elliptical X5 or the Life Fitness Elliptical X5i. The main difference with the X5 line of Life Fitness ellipticals, as compared to the X3 line, is that they have a feature called Select Stride. The Select Stride feature allows the user to choose from four different settings: jog, run, sprint and walk. There are also adjustments available to accommodate for different user heights. These elliptical fitness trainer machines are heavier and so people should not consider them to be portable, but instead, will want to leave them in place.

The Life Fitness Elliptical X9i has been called the best elliptical that money can buy and is the pride of the Life Fitness equipment line. The X9i sports a total of eighteen different pre-set programs and allows you to create up to seven personalized programs. The quality of this machine is said to be that of commercial exercise equipment gym caliber. This is also a very durable, heavy machine that a user will not want to try to move often. In addition to being very stable and giving the user a great sense of security, all of the Life Fitness machines are very quiet as well.

The final model in the Life Fitness equipment lineup of ellipticals is the Life Fitness Elliptical Sports Cardio SX30. This is considered to be the true low-end of the Life Fitness product line and is considered to be a rather average crossover elliptical trainer at best. It retails at just under $2,000 and if you are thinking about this model, then you should also check into the features of other competitive brands in this price range.

In summary, it should be pointed out that it would be hard to find better value in elliptical machines than what you can get with a choice from the Life Fitness exercise equipment line. After 40 years of doing business, Life Force has truly become a force in the global marketplace by standing behind their innovative, quality fitness equipment.

Golf Tips - Why Buying Discount Golf Equipment Is Good For The Game Of Golf

February 03, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Equipment No Comments →

The following article is from a series of articles and video tutorials about golf tips

Once you find a place to buy discount golf equipment, you will probably be forced to share your secret with every other golfer that you meet. As the popularity of golf continues to grow in mainstream culture, the cost of high quality golfing gear has gone up with it. Name brand gear such as Mizuno golf irons, Penn golf clubs, and an Ogio travel golf bag can make a tremendous difference in your golfing ability. They can also make a tremendous difference in your bank account.

That is why stores that sell discount golf equipment are so beneficial. Not only do they sell brand name equipment like clubs, shoes, balls, and bags, but you can also get a man or a woman golf apparel for that upcoming birthday or special occasion without breaking the bank. If you are buying your own equipment, then do it at a discount and save that extra money for the greens fees. Spend less on clubs so you have the money to play more holes throughout the summer. There are several different kinds of retailers that carry discount golf equipment.

A factory outlet store is owned and operated by one particular manufacturer. In stores like this, you will find discount golf equipment that is all the same brand. The merchandise in these shops comes from one of two sources, and it is important that you pay attention. Some of the equipment is excess stock from the previous year’s models. If you find this type of stock, then you will get some great deals. Others though, may promote irregular merchandise. This means that, while it is still functional, the merchandise didn’t pass the manufacturers quality control inspections and cannot be sold in a regular retail environment. If this is the case, then make sure you closely examine each piece to see what the defects are and how they could impact on your golf game.

There are also a number of second hand sporting goods stores where you can find discount golf equipment. These outlets can be a good place to find used golf club irons. Penn golf clubs, Mizuno golf irons, and other brands of golf hybrid irons can be purchased at a significant discount if they are second hand.

Regardless of where you may choose to buy it, the opportunity to acquire discount golf equipment has opened the doors for more people to enjoy golf. High quality golf clubs and apparel can be fairly expensive, and when you add the necessary club memberships and greens fees to that cost, the game prices many people right out of the game. The ability to purchase discounted equipment has opened the game of golf to a larger share of the population. Golf is no longer just a wealthy man’s game, and the golfing community is better for it.
