Keeping Your Children Happy And Healthy

September 30, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

Unfortunately, our children are growing up in a society today where it’s easier (And oftentimes yummier!) to live an unhealthy lifestyle! It’s far simpler to grab a bag of potato chips or a box of cookies than it is to prepare something healthy for everyone. Oftentimes we are so busy; we opt for fast food. It’s cheap and convenient, but unfortunately very unhealthy. While it may not be completely feasible to cut out junk food altogether, taking the steps toward a healthier lifestyle for our families can be simple and fun!

Caffeine and sodas are a pretty good place to start. Children are drinking sodas at a younger and younger age and too much sugar and caffeine isn’t good for anyone. Sodas are where the majority of children get their caffeine intake and just eliminating or reducing them from your child’s diet can reduce their risks of obesity, cavities, caffeine addiction, and dehydration. Fruit juices, water, and milk are great and tasty alternatives to soft drinks, and slowly introducing them to your child is a great way to cut back on sugary soft drinks.

Children are eating more and more as time goes on, and parents giving their children portion sizes comparable to their own is a growing trend. Make sure your child always gets the kid’s portion whenever you visit a restaurant or fast food chain. Putting food on smaller plates is a good idea also, as a smaller amount of food looks larger when placed on a small plate, and you also just can’t physically fit a lot of food on a little plate. Portions have grown to be completely out of control, and teaching your child about portion control from a very young age can help instill healthy habits for when they are adults as well.

What child doesn’t try to sneak the cookies out of a cookie jar? Kids have always loved sweets, and it’s hard to resist the pleading eyes of your baby, but too many sweets can lead to obesity, diabetes, and many more health problems. Fruits are a great substitute for sweets, and slowly introducing fruits and fruit-related desserts is not only healthy, but can be very fun! Bursting with vitamins and antioxidants, fruits are not only healthy but also very colorful and pretty, and it can be a great bonding experience with your children concocting new and colorful fruity desserts.

Nothing is better than a homemade meal, but unfortunately with our busy lifestyles, sometimes we just have to spring for the fast food. A lot of fast food chains have come out with healthier alternatives to the french fries and sodas in your child’s meal, like milk and fruit slices, and these are much better options than their salty counterparts. Whenever you go to a fast food chain, make sure to keep an eye out for the healthier alternatives, and order those for your child instead.

Remember that if your family has fallen into the pattern of a poor health-oriented lifestyle; never halt this cold turkey. Children and people in general, are always adverse to sudden change and you’ll get a lot better results slowly introducing these new choices to your family. Child obesity is a growing trend, and keeping your child from falling into it is of key importance today.

If you need more health and energy to keep up with your kids, take a look at tastey Chi3 energy drink. People everywhere are falling in love with the GoChi Chi3 energy drink! Take a look here at GoChi health juice and learn for yourself about it today!

Approaches To Evaluate And Address Continuous Depression

September 19, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

There are so many diseases afflicting humanity, it’s virtually impossible to keep track of them all. No wonder health care is such a political football in the U.S. So when information is available to assess their conditions, this at least provides a level of familiarity to the average non-medical citizen.

Among those conditions that cause such discomfort is depression. Treating it can range from a cocktail of medications to something as simple as increasing the amount of exercise you’re getting.

To learn more about clinical depression and how it’s treated, keep reading.

Diagnosing Depression

Feeling down in the dumps or a little blue is very normal. However, if these feelings of sadness or desperation continue for a period longer than two weeks or start to interfere with your day-to-day life, then it may be time to seek professional help.

This can actually become a life-threatening condition and cause people to lose the will to live, which will either adversely affect their lifestyle and health or, in extreme cases, could lead to suicide.

Symptoms of clinical depression include restlessness and agitation, excessive smoking and drinking alcohol, poor appetite and weight loss (or increased appetite and weight gain), memory loss, sleeping problems, impatience, loss of libido, anger, low self-esteem, ongoing negative thoughts, feelings of despair, cutting yourself off from others and thinking about suicide.

Causes of Depression

Unfortunately, depression doesn’t have one simple cause that can just be rooted out and done away with. This disease will vary with each individual, but can often be triggered by a stressful event like the death of a family member, a family tragedy or a financial or career crisis. Depression is also linked to certain health issues, both physical and mental.

How Depression is Treated

To establish the cause and severity of the depression, a doctor will seek to identify and avoid triggers. Mild cases of depression can often benefit from basic lifestyle changes like switching to a balanced diet and increasing exercise. However, long-term or severe cases may require drugs or long-term treatment.

Conventional treatment of depression involves protecting the patient from self-harm, relieving the symptoms and preventing recurrence. A combination of therapy that includes psychotherapy, nutrition and lifestyle changes, plus medication as needed tends to work best.

How Lifestyle Changes Can Help With Depression

If you’re suffering from depression, something as simple as getting regular exercise, drinking lots of water and eating a healthy diet can do wonders for your mental health. As your body and physical health improve, so may your mental health. In addition, exercise and many healthy foods are proven to boost serotonin levels, therefore improving the mood.

Medication

Typically, the drugs used in depression treating are called Selective Serotoninc Re-Uptake Inhibitors (SSRI’s), and there are hundreds of them on the market, both branded and generic. The common side effects of these anti-depressants include decreased sex drive, nervous system problems, gastrointestinal issues and weight gain.

Where Can You Finally Find Relief From Fibromyalgia Pain?

September 04, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes widespread pain and tenderness. There is no definitive answer on what causes fibromyalgia. There is evidence that genetic factors may play a role, but that is still being researched. However, there are some things that science has found to exacerbate symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Number one, stress seems to be a significant factor in the development of fibromyalgia, with PTSD also being linked to the condition. Stress can affect the levels of cortisol in the body which results in widespread pain. There are some who believe stress-induced fibromyalgia is psychosomatic, and will propose education, attitude change, and psychotherapy as treatment.

Second, lack of slow-wave sleep is thought to lead to fibromyalgia. According to this hypothesis, dramatic events or illness lead to sleep disturbance and eventually to chronic pain. This is a difficult hypothesis to prove or disprove due to a variety of other factors that may be involved.

Third are chemical imbalances. Our bodies to create a variety of chemicals that help regulate things like pain, sleep patterns, mood, and concentration. If these are out of balance, it can lead to problems like fibromyalgia. Dopamine is critical in regulating how we perceive pain, and serotonin plays a role in regulating or sleep patterns and boots. These are both considered neurotransmitters and if they are ineffective, it can lead to pain and other symptoms.

Unfortunately, there is still much research to be done on the causes of fibromyalgia. The best advice at this point seems to be eating healthy, and get regular exercise to help avoid things that may bring on fibromyalgia.

Keeping Young And Healthy With Qigong

June 22, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

We all know the importance of incorporating physical activity into our daily lives, however a large percent of the population over looks this fact. When exercise or physical activity is mentioned most of us instantly have visions of running endless miles or lifting weights in the gym. There are many options out there that are considered very effective especially if you are looking to improve or maintain your health.

As middle age approaches and passes the focus of physical activity is no longer about fitting into a bikini or having the biggest bulging muscles but is instead about living a longer quality life. If this is indeed your focus you may want to look at trying Qigong (Chi Gong). This ancient Chinese practice consists of a series of body movements with the focus on breathing.

The history of Chi Gong is rich and has been controversial. Chi Gong is an ancient Chinese health care system however it is also considered by many to be to a spiritual movement. Three basic classifications of Qigong have emerged which include the martial, medical, and spiritual styles. In the west however Qigong has become very popular as an exercise alternative that provides tremendous overall health benefits.

In Chinese the word Qigong (Chi Gong) breaks down into two words the first is Qi which means life energy, vital energy, or life force. The second word is Gong which means accomplishing a skill through daily or steady effort and practice. The premise is that we are all born with Chi and by using our Chi we can gain health benefits that impact us mentally, spiritually and physically. Chi Gong not only calms the spirit and the mind there by reducing stress but has been shown to strengthen the immune system, strengthen and improve balance and posture, increase vitality, reduce hypertension, and build overall stamina. A committed practice of Chi Gong also improves the function of the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the circulatory system, the digestive system, and the lymphatic system, all of which are extremely important to aging well and living a better quality life.

Chi Gong is generally divided into two basic types “soft” Qigong (ie. Tai Chi) for the overall health of body, mind and spirit, and “hard” Qigong (ie. Martial Arts) for concentration, discipline and strength training. Many forms or styles can easily be done by all ages and physical abilities including those individuals that are physically challenged. Regardless of which type you choose Chi Gong is an attractive activity as it allows you to exercise right in your own home if this is desired and benefits can be achieved in as little as 20 minutes a day.

Classes are widely available if a group setting is desirable or if you wish to stay at home in a private setting many books and DVD’s are available to help you get started. Remember that Chi Gong takes practice and commitment with the focus on proper breathing techniques, specific postures and mental focus. Incorporating Chi Gong into your lifestyle will bring you many added benefits that most exercise routines can not offer. Chi Gong will help you cultivate a positive outlook on life and help you to release negative attitudes and behaviors by bringing balance to your life by promoting harmony, stability and enjoyment.

Aromatherapy Smells

May 30, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

There may be a scientific reason why your favorite body lotions, soaps and candles have such a dramatic effect on your mood. Those pleasing scents that make you want to give out a sigh or make you feel energized is aromatherapy in action. Different scents affect people differently. Some may be relaxed by the soothing scent of lavender, whereas another person is energized by the smell. Relieving stress and helping the body is a full time job for the immune system so why not give it a boost with a delectable bouquet that makes you happy?

The use of aromatherapy has had a long and glorious history with mankind. The actual word was not coined until the 1920’s by a French chemist, but there have always been essential oils used for a variety of purposes. We now see these oils being used in body lotions, soaps, candles and even when indulging in a spa massage. The goal of the masseuse is to find a scent that achieves its purpose. Take, for example, a therapist using lavender to soothe and calm someone who is under a lot of stress.

Our sense of smell drives us and influences our behavior. Think about a freshly baked pumpkin pie. Now, if that image was reinforced by the smell of a pumpkin pie, then it will probably make you hungry for a slice. Our sense of smell plays a huge part in everything we do. Aromatherapy is about using pleasing scents to change your behavior and mood. If you think about it, then consider your reaction to a foul smell.

Scientists and the medical profession are now embracing the fact that an aromatherapist can work wonders on a person’s psychological health and well-being. If the body is relaxed and free of tension, then the mind will follow. Perhaps these discoveries will help influence mental health professionals when dealing with individuals who are Bipolar or suffer from depression.

Aromatherapy is here to stay. Each time we breathe in and smell something that changes our mood or changes the body’s response to certain stimuli, we are embracing the concept. Considering how long the practice has been used and how long mankind has responded to these scents, it is fairly certain that there will be continued use for a variety of treatments. Perhaps one day medical science will be able to reproduce those calming effects that lavender and vanilla have on the human body.

Aromatherapy And Scented Candles

May 23, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

Alternative medicine has gained in popularity over the last few years, yet it is nothing new and has been around for centuries. Before there was a medical industry people used alternative medicine as a way to treat their health conditions. Aromatherapy is one such practice that has gained a wide following. Aromatherapy candles can be found in many places. These scented candles are everywhere you shop, barring a hardware store or feed store. You can use them as a way to calm the body and change the mood.

Aromatherapy is nothing new. It has been around for over six thousand years. It was not always in the form of paraffin wax candles or beeswax candles but it was still used. Earlier in history, it would have probably been used as essential oils applied to the skin or burned in pots. In today’s world, the most common form of aromatherapy is found in aromatherapy candles, which release their essential oil fragrances as they are burned.

It is the aromatherapy scents that make all the difference in scented candles. It does not matter if they are soy candles or cheap candles scented with vanilla that you find in discount dollar stores. The effects are the same. The scent you choose will affect your mood. Take for example a vanilla scent. It has been proven to help relax a person. The same can be said for lavender and lilac.

There are scents on the opposite end of the spectrum that can help revitalize you and improve your energy. If you are feeling sluggish, then you may want to try a peppermint candle or one that contains lemon. Perhaps you are feeling amorous and want to inspire a feeling of romance in the air? Then you should try a rose candle or a scented candle that contains sandalwood. Both are known for their aphrodisiac effects.

As you can see, aromatherapy candles come in a wide variety of scents to help improve your mood and relax or invigorate you. Finding these scented candles is not difficult either. The Yankee Candle Company has a wide variety of scents and they are sold in many retail stores. You can even go to Cracker Barrel, a restaurant, and find these wonderfully scented candles. They even sell small scented boards of their most popular scents to go in your car so you can keep that great scent wherever you are.

Stimulating Your Mind The Smart Way

May 17, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

It’s no secret that to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle, one must consistently exercise their body, but very few people know that you must also exercise your brain as well! Your brain, like your biceps, is a muscle. And like the rest of the muscles in your body, your brain will grow weak when not put to good use. The key difference in the brain and your other muscles though is that while your body requires physical exercise, your brain needs mental exercises and stimulation! Things like strategy games, studying, puzzles, and other problem solving tasks are all perfect for stimulating your brain, which helps it to grow healthier and stronger. What is so special about exercising your brain, though? Keeping your brain in tip-top shape provides benefits not only for the short term, but the long term as well. Not only are you able to, in the short term, perform much higher levels of critical thinking and reasoning, but in the long run you will be able to perform much more complex tasks, react faster, and be better protected from illnesses like Alzheimer’s.

Unfortunately, it can be easy to fall into a lifestyle where our brain is not challenged, but instead suffers. There are a few things that occur in many people’s daily lives that can actually hurt the brain’s ability to think and reason, and over time seriously impede it and cause problems later on in life. These things usually can’t be avoided altogether, but they can and should be limited. Firstly, the brain hates an environment driven by routine. - It is designed to learn, think, reason, and adapt, and if it is not being presented any challenges, or situations where it must be used to reason, it grows weaker. Spontaneity, challenge, and variety are all wonderful for the brain. Second, anxiety and stress actually take a negative toll on the brain. This is not surprising, as stress seems to have negative effects on nearly every part of the body. When a person experiences elevated levels of stress for long periods the brain’s ability to rationalize, reason, and solve problems is severely limited. If this goes on for long enough, then the lack of mental exercise achieved by the brain will be so low that it will suffer.

So how can you go about stimulating and exercising your brain? Fortunately for all of us, there are numerous ways that you can go about getting your brain a great workout! The key here is to make sure that every part of your brain gets exercised. For example, crossword puzzles and word searches are great ways to work a certain part of the brain, but if these are the only exercises you do, the rest of your brain is left unchallenged and unstimulated, and inevitably suffers. So it is best to make sure that you have a constantly changing and challenging line-up of exercises that will test your brain in a variety of areas. While activities on paper are great, there are also a lot of computer and video-based programs that are designed specifically to challenge your brain. These are great, because they contain a large variety of problems and puzzles that are designed to work out every area of your brain. These games are growing in popularity, and plenty of video game titles are coming out that are based solely around the concept of brain exercising. Any game that involves planning, thought, strategy and decision making can also do a great job in stimulating the problem solving and reasoning areas of the brain! Just make sure that you are constantly challenging your brain. – Letting a certain exercise become routine and easy is not a challenge!

The bottom line is that you must remember to challenge your brain. It learns very quickly, so even activities that challenge the brain lose their effectiveness once they become routine. Be spontaneous with the style of puzzle or activity you do. This causes the brain to have to adapt, and this provokes wondrous benefits. Challenging your brain can not only make you a much more mentally capable person, but it is also a lot of fun and greatly reduces your risk for degenerative diseases and helps to keep your mind young and active.

Obviously nutrition for the brain is also very valuable for brain health, so brain nutritional supplements can also be extremely valuable.

A peer-reviewed clinical study was recently conducted, the results of which are being published in the prestigious Journal for Alternative and Complemnentary Medicine (JACM). Two of the total of 19 specific health benefits associated with this Goji juice health drink are Improved Ability to Focus and Sharper Mental Acuity.

Some of the other benefits documented in this clinical study on GoChi juice were reduction of stress and feeling calmer.

It’s a known fact, everyone wants to live a longer and happier life. And really, all that is required to achieve this is to have a healthy mind and a healthy body. A healthy body is one which is full of energy, good immunity and a great detoxification system. I’m sure you agree, you need to have all the three for the best results. However something that you may not know is one nutrient specifically plays an important role in providing all three of these, and it is known as ‘Glutathione’. Your body itself synthesizes this vital nutrient and all you have to do is to support your body ability to produce glutathione in adequate amounts.

Glutathione – the anti-oxidant and free radicals
Our body undergoes wear and tear continuously. It is exposed to so many harmful things. It is exposed to stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet, aging, injury, trauma etc. All these pile up a dangerous group of chemicals called free radicals. These get accumulated in the cells. These free radicals meddle with the normal functioning of the cells.

Free radicals need to be removed if your bodies cells are to function normally. This is where anti-oxidants play a major role. They neutralize these free radicals and prevent them from causing further damage to the cells. Glutathione is the super anti-oxidant that is present inside the cell itself. It is present in all cells and efficiently nullifies the effects of free radicals. The incredible thing is that Glutathione is produced naturally in our body. However as we age we produce less and less, eventually allowing free radicals to run freely in our body. Creating disease and other problems we call, “the signs of aging”

Glutathione and immunity
A weak immune system is helpless in preventing various infections. If your immune system is low, for example if you have an HIV infection, even bacteria that are very mild without causing any disease can enter your body producing various symptoms. The vital molecule glutathione is present in all cells including the cells of the immune system. They readily ward off any kind of infection. You have to keep the optimum level of glutathione inside the cells. All you really have to do is keep a diet rich in glutathione and help your body to create more of it.

To learn more about how you can help your body to produce it’s own natural version of glutathione please visit our website and inquire about max international and our product maxgxl

Advice On Stress And Anxiety

May 13, 2008 By: Mr. Fitness Category: Wellness No Comments →

Stress and Anxiety

If you think you might be depressed or going through depression then you should know a few things about this problem. First it might just be that you will get better on your own, but you might not. The first thing to do is learn as much as you can about the different types of depression and the treatments for them. Lets start with a general overview.

Depression is a problem condition that affects the lives of everyone around the person with the condition; however, this is not a case of a single condition but just an umbrella term for many. The cause is often (but not always) about issues that have not been rectified; naturally almost anyone can become depressed about certain aspects of their life. Getting professional help as soon as the problem is recognized is an important step to help stop the condition getting worse; this help is needed to find out why you are depressed as this will eventually help finding a cure for the problem.

Depression Advice

Feeling low and angry at life affects all of us occasionally in particular when something awful has happened; it is unlikely however, a doctor would diagnose depression if they did feel this way as it is generally a temporary experience. Many people have problems caused by personal issues in relationships or family situations; as far as a person who is depressed is concerned: their problems have gone a stage further and need to be dealt with differently. Problems have a tendency to multiply when they are not corrected and this is very true with this particular condition; the answer is to get the help needed to face the problem and stop it controlling your life.

Sadness or Depression

Often the problem stems from a situation in the workplace which is unresolved or ongoing; without an intermediary stepping in these circumstances often result in the person suffering with panic attacks as well. Someone who is so depressed they are unable to even to carry out the most basic day to day tasks desperately needs to seek help; it may be necessary to work through the issues with a professional to get back on track again. Strangely, not all depression is self induced because it can be the result of medical treatment for an unrelated condition; this is a problem for the person on medication especially where no external situation exists that could actually have caused the condition.

In these circumstances the person’s doctor should be made aware of any changes in mood so appropriate action can be taken. The hardest cases of depression to deal with are those where there is no apparent cause; a situation like this can make treating the condition much more complicated. Denial of the originating situation can be the reason why sometimes it is not easy for a professional to determine the cause; when the patient refuses to recognize the cause of the condition, the healing process will come to a halt.

One of the types of depression that is extremely difficult to diagnose is called Bipolar Disorder; unfortunately, new studies have found that owing to new overlap theories it can actually take up to five years before a person could be correctly diagnosed as suffering from this condition. Once a person has become depressed, it has reached a stage where they need help to overcome it but they must realize this for themselves if the treatment is too be successful. Just making that first move can make all the difference and enable the patient to feel as if they are making appositive move towards their treatment; if it is having a detrimental affect on your life then once something positive is done there will be a sense of relief which is the first step to becoming cured.
